The Kress KR280E EyePilot® 4×4 RTKⁿ is a compact, wire-free robotic lawn mower designed for smaller gardens up to 800 m² that still present real challenges. It combines satellite positioning with Vision AI and all-wheel drive to handle slopes, uneven ground, and awkward layouts where basic robotic mowers struggle.

About the Kress KR280E EyePilot® 4×4

The KR280E is the smallest model in the EyePilot 4×4 range, but it uses the same core platform as Kress’s larger machines. Rather than being built for flat, simple lawns, it is aimed at properties that are limited in size but demanding in terrain. EyePilot® navigation combines RTKⁿ satellite positioning with a Mono VSLAM camera and Vision AI. This hybrid system is designed to maintain accurate navigation in open areas and continue operating reliably when satellite signal is reduced by trees, fences, or nearby buildings. All-wheel drive gives the KR280E strong traction on slopes and uneven ground, allowing it to maintain steady movement and consistent cutting even in damp or shaded conditions.

Wire-Free Mapping and Navigation

The KR280E does not require a perimeter wire. Lawn boundaries, working areas, and exclusion zones are created digitally using the Kress app. AI-assisted auto-mapping can be used for fast setup, with manual boundary editing available for fine adjustments. This wire-free approach avoids the disruption of cable installation and makes it easier to adapt the mower if the garden layout changes. It is particularly useful for smaller gardens with irregular shapes or multiple lawn sections.

4×4 Drive and Slope Handling

Despite its compact size, the KR280E features a full four-wheel drive system. This provides reliable grip on slopes, banks, and uneven surfaces that would typically cause wheel slip on two-wheel-drive robotic mowers. Consistent traction helps the mower maintain its mowing pattern and reduces turf damage during turns, which is especially important on smaller lawns where repeated passes are more noticeable.

Kress ZeroTrim technology is designed to reduce the need for manual edge trimming. Using vision-based boundary recognition, the KR280E cuts close to defined lawn edges without relying on a physical boundary wire. Softer or irregular borders will still benefit from reduced trimming, but final results depend on how accurately the boundary is mapped.
