Kingsway Golf Centre located in Royston, 8 miles south of Cambridge offers two 9-hole golf courses along with a 30-bay driving range driven by Toptracer Range. Kings Way Golf Centre approached GroundTech to automate their golf ball collection.
James the Operations Director has reached out to GroundTech to find a solution that will automate the collection of golf balls on his range. With an impressive throughput of approximately 25,000 balls each day, James is seeking a system that integrates seamlessly with his existing wash system while operating efficiently within a limited space.
GroundTech collaborated closely with Operations Director Jamie Goose and his team to assess the course layout, identify optimal docking station locations, and develop efficient mowing patterns to maximise coverage and machine performance. Following a quotation, a two-week on-site trial was carried out to demonstrate the mower’s capabilities in real-world conditions. During this period, the greenkeeping team received hands-on training, enabling them to adapt mowing zones, adjust fairway shapes, and map rough areas to extend coverage effectively.
The project involved the installation of a ditch and elevator, and a custom-made holding tank. These components work in harmony to automate the transportation of golf balls from the collection area to the dispenser, significantly reducing the workload on staff. The machine is now capable of picking up to 20,000 golf balls per day. This remarkable capacity ensures that the range remains stocked with minimal manual intervention.
GroundTech’s tailored approach and support enabled Kingsway Golf Centre to effectively collect the range golf balls with minimal interaction by the staff, which has reallocated labour in order to improve other areas of the busy complex.
